          Dr. John Hamish Watson, a prominent figure in the annals of detective fiction, made his debut as the indispensable companion of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary character, Sherlock Holmes.

          Originally intended to be named Ormond Sacker, Conan Doyle ultimately settled on the name "John Watson."
