          Xavier Cugat (January 1, 1900 - October 27, 1990) was a highly acclaimed and influential Spanish bandleader, violinist, composer, arranger, and longtime leader of the Waldorf-Astoria Orchestra who became famous beginning in the 1940s and was a key figure in the popularization of Latin dance music.

          Cugat's best known songs include "Perfidia" (1941), "Brazil (Aquareia Do Brasil)" (1943), and "You Belong To My Heart" (1945, with Bing Crosby).
